Sick Serena late for Hopman

Oh no! Here we go again. I know that we all get sick but this is putting a very bad taste in my mouth. Serena will miss Saturday's match and that leaves three additional days of matches for Serena and Mardy: Monday, Thursday and Friday (Final). Get well SOON Serena! Make 2008 your best and most consistent season yet.

American drawcard Serena Williams will make a late start to Perth's Hopman Cup mixed teams event due to illness.

Williams will not arrive in Perth in time to partner Mardy Fish in the Americans' opening tie in the tournament against Indians Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna on Saturday.

The world No.7 will be replaced by the 52nd-ranked Meghann Shaughnessy. There had been concern over Williams' attendance at the tournament because of recent injuries, but she has assured organisers she will arrive in Perth over the weekend. Under Hopman Cup rules, player substitutions are allowed between ties.

It's too bad that she's sick, but i think three matches will be enough to prepare for the AO. I mean the first couple of rounds are usually not that difficult for her, so she could use them also to find het rythem.

Also a nice thing to know is that she will not face Henin untill the finals because she is ranked 8th. So she will be in the bottom half of the draw, Henin will be in the top half of the draw.

Too bad that Venus is probably facing henin in the quaters, she is ranked 8th, which means she will face the No. 1 in the quarters right??
whats your opinion about this..

greetzz.....a dutch serena fan:D

I honestly feel that the "current" Serena is more motivated and appears (mentally and physically) ready for all challengers, including the awesome Henin (whether in the quarters or finals). As for Venus, she played phenomenally well during Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and will also be a major threat in '08. (She was closing to stopping Henin at the U.S. Open). Now that was a great match as well as Vee stopping Jelena Jankovic. I will go as far as to say that the Williams Sisters are taking no prisoners in '08 and will rule the Slams. (Sounds like a tall order? I think not).

hey everyone. im pretty upset now, yesterday i read the blog here that serena was sick and attending the hopman open late. now it appears according to an article on tennis channel that the delay is due to the injury she got in madrid. hopefully this doesnt hamper her season.
