Williams Sisters put off visit to Nigeria

By Agency Reporter

The proposed visit of Serena and Venus Williams to the country has been put off.

Serena and Venus, who have won two of the four tennis Grand Slams, were scheduled to be in Lagos. The sisters were expected to be in Nigeria between November 10 and 12 to play an exhibition and mentor 1000 sporting youths.

According to the Director of International Tennis Academy on Thursday, Godwin Kienka, the ankle injury sustained by Serena in the first round of the Porsche Championship in Stuttgart, Germany, last week has caused a change in the plan by the world No 1 player and her sister to travel to Nigeria next month.

Serena with her No.1 position in the WTA rankings at stake routed Li Na of China 6- 0 in the first set but eventually lost 1-6, 4-6 due to an ankle problem.
