Serena nominated for Sportswoman of the Year

Serena has been nominated for the Sportswoman of the Year Award. The poll, conducted by the Women’s Sports Foundation, is currently underway and the winner will be announced Oct. 13 at an event in New York City. The 10 nominees were chosen based on performances given between Aug. 1, 2008 and July 31, 2009. Founded by former tennis star Billie Jean King in 1974, the foundation has chosen a Sportswoman of the Year every year since 1993. For more information visit http://womenssportsfoundation.org/.

Other nominees for the Sportswoman of the Year Award include: figure skater Kim Yu-na, golfer Lorena Ochoa, surfer Stephanie Gilmore, snowboarder Lindsey Jacobellis, gymnast Courtney Kupets, swimmer Jessica Long, car racer Danica Patrick, sprinter Kerron Stewart and skier Lindsey Vonn. Past winners include figure skater Michelle Kwan, golfer Annika Sorenstam and gymnast Nastia Liukin.
