Major players on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour have joined forces with the Australian tennis community to raise funds and rebuild the areas recently affected by the bush fires in New South Wales. Players from around the world have sent messages of support and donated signed equipment, clothing and money toward aiding the fire-affected communities.
Australian tennis stars Casey Dellacqua, Samantha Stosur and Rennae Stubbs were joined by Daniela Hantuchova, Ana Ivanovic, Dinara Safina, Ai Sugiyama and Serena Williams in the charity and good will effort. The players donated items that will be auctioned off to raise money for the Tennis Bushfire Relief Appeal. "My prayers go out to everyone involved. It's such a sad and unfortunate event to happen, and the loss of life has been tragic," said 2009 Australian Open champion Williams.
